Time breaks apart all things, this is entropy. Entropy, with regard to small groups means more specifically, any type of breakdown. A literal breaking apart of the group or the group losing effectiveness, called stagnation. Poor communication is often labelled the cause of small group entropy. Another problem, in my experience, is differing priorities and values among the groups' participants. Differing values can cause resentment within groups and accelerate its entropy.
The best way for me to understand equifinality is to compare it with the "many paths up the same mountain" philosophy. Within small groups, the group organization may vary, the participants may vary but it is possible for different groups to produce the same or similar results. The "many paths" idea is one that many religious beliefs lead to the same end, like many paths lead to the same mountaintop. I don't believe in this but it is a useful metaphor. To extent the metaphor, different groups, operating different ways can reach the same end goal.
